In 1921, Carl Jung theorized that there were eight cognitive functions. According to Jung, everyone had a dominant function (a preferred function), an auxiliary function (which supports the dominant function), a tertiary function (which starts out weak), and an inferior function (the hardest function for someone to use.) This concept was used by Meyers and Briggs to formulate their famous personality test.

This website provides a cognitive function test (click the Take the Quiz button to take it!) and some information on each of the types (click the JCF Info button to read more.)
